Qualifikationsziele
The students will learn to familiarize themselves with an elective seminar topic from the area of visual computing and how to present it. The elaboration takes place partly under guidance and partly independently. Students will thus learn how to present subject-related content.
After positive completion of the course, students are able to write a scientific paper, more precisely a state-of-the-art report, and they will have a good overview of the current state of research in the field of visual computing.

Kommentar/Beschreibung

In our daily lives, an increasing amount of abstract and highly structured information is generated, which needs to be analyzed and interpreted. This is exactly where visual computing in all its variety from image processing to visualization, visual and immersive analytics comes into play, in order to help people explore and such large and complex information structures. In this semester we focus on one specific area in visual computing which is immersive analytics.

Immersive analytics is a new interdisciplinary field that brings together researchers and practitioners from data visualization, visual analytics, virtual and mixed reality, human–computer interaction, and human-in-the-loop algorithmics to explore these new forms of analytics tools. The goal is to remove barriers between people, their data, and the tools they use for analysis by developing more engaging, embodied analysis tools that support data understanding and decision-making everywhere and by everyone, either working individually or collaboratively.

The goal of this seminar is to elaborate on a selected topic of interest and to introduce it in the form of an oral presentation as well as a written state-of-the-art report, respectively. The students will be involved in the review process of the generated papers of their colleagues. They will moderate the presentations of their colleagues as session chairs, they will lead the discussions on the presentations and actively ask questions as discussion participants.
