The seminar is relevant for scholars of organizations and management, but also might be attractive to scholars from other disciplines who seek to draw on this research in the spirit of cross-disciplinary pollination and collaboration.
Voraussetzungen
This English-language PhD-course is an intensive seminar where participants will engage in in-depth discussions, critical analysis, and scholarly exploration of research topics under the guidance of an experienced professor. The seminar will emphasize rigorous intellectual exchange with the aim of fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter.
Please send an email, including motivation letter and CV (including all relevant grades), to ilonka.weinberger@uni-passau.de as soon as possible, but latest by 20 January 2024, if you wish to attend. Only up to 15 participants.
Lernorganisation
A considerable amount of reading is required before each class session.
In each session we will discuss the assigned articles. Our discussion will be descriptive, critical, and creative. In the descriptive mode we will explore what the author intended to accomplish and why. In the critical mode we will look at how well the authors did what they set out to do. In the creative mode we will address the question ‘what’s next in this line of research and in this general topic area?’ Thus, beyond an in-depth critique of the assigned articles we will devote time to raising and discussing new research questions.
This seminar is graded as pass-fail. Each participant’s learning and the learning of all will depend upon participants arriving to class fully prepared and then participating fully in the discussion. A grade of pass for the seminar indicates that the participant’s preparation for all the sessions and their participation in all the sessions were excellent.
Leistungsnachweis
Erwerb eines Scheins als Doktorand, je nach Promotionsordnung.

Kommentar/Beschreibung

This is a doctoral-level seminar in which we will review research in management and business ethics, with a specific focus on the topic of organizational wrongdoing. We will address a mix of theoretical and empirical contributions.
Participants will become familiar with some of the basic assumptions, concepts, theories, and findings in management and business ethics pertaining to organizational wrongdoing.
The seminar will conclude with each participant giving a Pecha Kucha style presentation of their own research idea. The idea could be one developed from the content of this seminar. Or it could be based an ongoing research project incorporated with ideas learned in the seminar.
