Kommentar/Beschreibung

Internet of Things (IoT) is about to become reality in our daily live and can be already seen by new equipments such as smart watches, smart thermostats, or smart home. Just as Internet connectivity has enabled intuitive information sharing and interaction through the Web, so the IoT is a basis for the Web of Things (WoT), enabling equally simple interaction among devices, systems, users, and applications. Similar to the Web WoT is introduced incrementally by the research community based on existing web technologies. So it is time to evaluate and discuss the WoT approach.
The lecture is moderated by experts internationally active in the W3C Web of Things Interest Group (WoT IG) and will cover from the basic technologies for the Web of Things up to the recent discussions in that group on Web technologies and standards such as communication protocols and APIs (e.g., REST Web services), semantics, and security.
Beside sessions on the building blocks of the WoT the moderators also want to provide practical hands on knowledge for implementing the web of things. For this we will align a practical project with the demonstration framework in the W3C WoT IG and implement a particular WoT aspect. By this the students will be given the opportunity to get in touch with the ‘Things’ based on microcontrollers and the utilization of emerging Web of Things technologies. If successful we would encourage to submit the project for demonstration to the W3C.
