Be part of an innovative online learning experience! The Erasmus+ project BESTNATURE offers an online course to advance the understanding of the important role of European ecosystems for nature conservation and climate protection. The course consists of online videos and training materials that students can study at their own pace. It is accompanied by four mandatory zoom sessions that allow for direct exchange with the lecturers involved at the University of Passau. Overall, the workload is equivalent to a lecture. Course content: 1. Basic knowledge of biodiversity in the face of global change: Biodiversity and ecological processes, threats and endangered species, ecosystems and the carbon cycle 2. Biodiversity and carbon monitoring: Introduction to field methods and remote sensing for biodiversity and carbon assessments 3. Governance and management of protected areas: International initiatives in biodiversity conservation, European agreements (e.g., Natura 2000), protected area design and management |

| Workload |
Online material equivalent to 12 seminar sessions. Four mandatory hybrid session. 20 minutes oral presentation in English on a topic related to the seminar content. The course content will be made available online starting from late April. You can study at you own pace during a period of around two months. In addition, there are a number of mandatory zoom sessions. Please be aware that the exam has to be attended in person at the University of Passau: 29 April (4:15pm): Introductory meeting (zoom) 20 May (4:15pm): Q & A session (zoom) 17 June (4:15pm): Q & A session (zoom) 01 July (4:15pm): Q & A session, exam preparation (zoom) Early July: Exam (45 minutes), time and room to be announced |

The Erasmus+ BESTNATURE project is a joint endeavor of the University of Tuscia (lead partner), the University of Bologna, the University of Passau, the University of Graz, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and E.C.O. – Institute for Ecology, Austria. Its overall aim is to boost the EU Biodiversity Strategy by empowering high education curricula and green skills for nature protection and restoration. The project runs from November 2023 to October 2026. |
