Content:
Project Management methodologies were developed in western cultures and are based on these values and assumptions. In this seminar the role of culture and its potential impact on project goals, planning and risk management are addressed and discussed in group sessions. The participants will be provided the opportunity to reflect on their own cultural background. During exercises the participants will experience different communication styles and understand their implications on project management, especially in conflict situations. Based on case studies, they get the opportunity to discuss the importance of trust and relationship management in different cultures. They get to know different leadership styles that can be introduced depending on the situation and based on culturally different expectations towards the project manager.
Summary: With explanation and understanding of different methods and handy tools in order to collaborate effectively students have acquired a good basic knowledge in project management. Also work from a physical distance and in virtual teams will for sure be included.

Learning objectives:
The participants

• understand that working in an international environment is very demanding
• understand that three things are key for successful international project management: Building up stable and long-term relationships to the managers and main stakeholders, keeping harmony in the team and been able to build up trust within the team and with their managers
• have awareness about different cultural values, especially their own and have elaborated how that can lead to conflicts and time issues, which can lead to a postponement of projects
• understand different leadership styles and how they can be utilized in different cultures ensuring a project is running smoothly from the beginning to end
• understand how a conflict can arise and what methods can be used to solve it (using the CDPTM)
• understand that communication is very different in the world, which can lead to different expectations and the outcome of a project
