Content:
This seminar offers an in-depth look into German culture using a variety of interactive methods such as images, case studies, models, values, and videos. Participants will use the Iceberg Model to explore both visible aspects of culture—such as everyday routines and social structures—and the deeper, often hidden values and norms that shape communication and behaviour in Germany.
Through perspective-shifting exercises, video analysis, and case discussions, participants will explore key German cultural standards, including objective professionalism, the separation between private and professional spheres, and direct communication styles. The course also reflects on how core values like equality and honesty influence everyday communication and behaviour in Germany. Learning takes place through experiments and critical reflection.

Learning objectives:
International students will be able to:

• Understand the German value system and cultural standards to communicate and engage without bias
• Strengthen their intercultural communication skills in German academic and professional contexts
• Experiment with culturally appropriate behaviour’s in both university and workplace settings in Germany
• Shift perspectives to reflect on their own cultural preferences and examine how these relate to German norms
